During the migration your site will run on both the old and new hosts simultaneously. Then, needed DNS changes are made to transition from the old server to the new one. Steps are taken to minimize transition time, and most visitors experience zero downtime during the switch. Migrations are also typically scheduled for a date and time that minimizes the impact of any unexpected downtime.

Migration timelines vary based on site complexity, size, custom requirements and necessary planning. A simple WordPress or HTML site might take a few hours to 1-2 days, while a complex eCommerce site or custom application may require 3-7 days include planning requirement. Once the DNS propagation from old to new is started (and visitors start seeing your site on the new server) the public starts to interact with the new server as their IPS gain its updated address. This process typically takes 24-48 hours, but your site remains accessible during this period.

To ensure a smooth migration, we'll need the following: access credentials for your current hosting control panel, FTP/SFTP access for the site, database credentials, domain registrar access (or ability to update DNS), and information about any special configurations or third-party services. Our pre-migration checklist helps us identify all the necessary access required in your unique case and help keep the process organized.

Of course! We commonly provide a variety of technical and website maintenance services, as well as web design, web development and marketing tailored to meet your needs and budget.

In most cases a website migration does not impact email services. Today, email services are often managed and maintained separately from the website (for example, using Google Workspace or Microsoft 365). If you require migration of your email services, please inquire as that would be addressed separately so as to no impact the website migration.

Typically, a hosting migration has minimal impact on SEO. The site will remain largely as it was, just in a new home. We maintain identical URL structures, and ensure search engines can seamlessly crawl your site on the new server. We also verify that site speed improves or remains stable, as performance changes may impact search rankings. Post-migration monitoring identifies and addresses any potential SEO issues promptly. We can also work with you to improve your search ranks after your migration.

Unless your migration is specifically to move from an old domain to a new one, the domain will remain the same.
You'll maintain ownership and use of your domain name when changing hosts. Your domain registration remains with your current registrar unless you specifically request a registrar transfer. The domain would only change if that requirement was a requested part of your migration.

We'll either transfer your existing SSL certificate to the new host (if it's a paid certificate with remaining time before expiration) or install a new SSL certificate on the new server. Most hosts now provide free Let's Encrypt certificates that can be implemented before your site goes live on the new server if required, but are also very quick to issue and install on the new server after a DNS update. Please inquire if you have specific SSL related requirements.
